This hurricane season, Mohawk employees and customers have experienced heartbreak and devastation. Approximately 50 employees in the Carolinas have reported damages to their homes from hurricane Florence and several industry partners have been significantly impacted by hurricane Michael.
To support these individuals and others in need, employees at Mohawk’s Antioch, Duvall Miles, Eton, Flooring Center, Industrial Park, Lavender, Light Lab, Non-woven, Phelps, Samples, Union Grove and Virgil Drive locations collected nonperishable food, toiletries and paper goods. Sr. Product Manufacturing Specialist Tara Blalock helped coordinate item pickups and a Mohawk truck for transporting the donations to employees in Bennettsville, S.C.
Once the truck arrived in Bennettsville, the leadership team used the items to create care packages and distributed them to impacted employees.
“It made our entire team feel like someone really cared,” Bennettsville HR Manager Michael Williams said. “After all of the devastation, people are spending their money getting things fixed and repaired. A lot of folks had to restock and it’s made everyone feel really supported to know that people at our sister and brother plants understood these needs and donated an entire truckload of items to help.”
Thanks to a drive led by Director of National Accounts Kelly Oberschlake, another truck departed from the Mohawk Flooring Center with more than 200 donations to support customers and retail partners in Florida.
“My first territory was in the Florida panhandle,” Kelly said. “When I had retail sales associates reaching out terrified because they wouldn’t had any income because their store was demolished, I know I had to help.”
Thanks to everyone who contributed to these donation drives. Your support made a difference.
