In John Taylor’s words, he “wouldn’t want to trade the Third Shift Container Crew team members for anyone else.”
John, who is a shipping and receiving clerk at Union Grove Distribution, entered this team into the See Yourself Here contest for their dedication, strong teamwork and commitment to getting the job done.
Each night, the team of 14 manually unloads shipment containers filled with rugs, memory foam, mats and more. The shipment containers that arrive at the warehouse throughout the day have no climate control, which means temperatures rise in summer and drop during the winter. The team is also responsible for checking to ensure they receive the right amount of each item and preparing these products for storage until they’re pulled and shipped out to customers.
“One thing that stands out to me with this team is that they always get here and get the job done without complaint,” Distribution Manager Robert Cole said. “This job is very physical and repetitive, and they could lift over 4,000 pieces in one night, all weighing between 25 and 80 pounds.”
Another priority for the team is completing their shift safely, while supporting each other with positive attitudes and lending a hand when needed.
“Being their brother's keeper and watching out for one another is a big part of what makes this group successful, and they never hesitate to step in and help someone who needs it,” Shift Leader Malcolm Williams said. “They also have a good time being competitive to see how efficiently they can get a truck unloaded. I’m very proud of this group of guys and how they work together – it’s a great group.”
The team chose to celebrate their recognition with a steak dinner. Join us in congratulating the team in the comments below!
