When a radio station in Orlando launched a city-wide food drive to help feed area schoolchildren in need during the summer months, team members at the Daltile Orlando Sales Service Center and Builder Distribution Center tuned in and turned up their efforts to help the project succeed. The goal was to collect 10,000 donated non-perishable food items for an area relief pantry to distribute to the families of schoolchildren during the summer.
“(Customer Service Representative II) Stephanie Antonoglou came up with the idea for our team to participate and to offer the opportunity for our customers to join us, and everyone else on our team lined up to help,” said SSC Manager Kevin Labonte.
In just two weeks this summer, the assortment of donated canned goods, dry pastas, cereals and other non-perishables donated at the Orlando SSC grew and grew; in total, the SSC would end up contributing more than 600 items to the drive.
The relief pantry receiving the drive donations regularly stocks cabinets at participating schools with common food items and basic hygiene items that are distributed by school district-approved volunteers to kids’ families in need.
“I'm very proud of their hard work and dedication to the project,” Labonte said. “This was not done for the recognition but because of the pure selflessness of our team. This is just one of the many times they have stepped up to help our community.”
