It’s time to celebrate the newest addition to Mohawk’s Dalton Green Street campus.
The Latin American Association’s Dalton office, which is located at 508 E. Morris St. near the HLC, is officially open to the public. LAA staff and supporters are inviting the community to join them for a Grand Opening Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Festivities will include food, music, vendors and other great resources for local families.
“Mohawk is partnering with the Dalton chapter of the LAA to promote the LAA’s services, support important events and provide leadership through representation on the organization’s board of directors,” said Senior VP Human Resources Phil Brown. “We’re excited to welcome the LAA to Dalton and partner with their team as they provide resources and services that will benefit the entire community. Part of what makes Mohawk great is our diverse workforce. Different ideas, experiences and perspectives create a positive and inclusive environment that promotes innovative thinking and growth. We know this organization will make a positive impact across northwest Georgia."
Since 1972, the LAA has empowered Latinos to adapt, integrate and thrive in the communities where they work and live. The Dalton office will provide services in five focus areas including education, economic empowerment, immigration, family well being and cultural engagement. While the LAA has a long history of supporting Latinos, the staff emphasizes that everyone – regardless of ethnicity – is welcome and encouraged to take advantage of the services they provide.
“The LAA is proud to become an engaged member of the Dalton community, which, in many ways, represents Georgia’s diverse future,” LAA Executive Director Anibal Torres said.
Mohawk employees have already been involved with the LAA in a number of ways. To learn more about Georgia’s Latino population and share experiences around the topic of civic engagement, a group from Mohawk attended the 2019 State of Latinos Conference, which was hosted by the LAA. Director of Global HR Systems-Processes and Employee Relations Maria Guzman is representing Mohawk on the LAA’s board of directors.
The Company was also recently recognized with the 2019 Corporate Champion Award from the LAA, awarded to VP of Human Resources for FNA Rod Wedemeier who also gave a speech during the award ceremony showcasing the Mohawk’s support for the organization. The Corporate Champion Award is given to an LAA corporate partner who has significantly supported their local community, and representatives supporting the LAA from Home Depot, Delta, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Georgia Power and UPS were in attendance.
