Over 250 nominations were made for outstanding drivers across the Company to be recognized as a 2018 Driver of the Year.
Narrowing it down to just one person from each region and fleet was a difficult task for the Logistics team, and we’d like to thank every Mohawk Driver for your dedication to safety and service. Join us in congratulating the 2018 award winners:
Henry Martinez, Brentwood, NY
Some might say Henry has the toughest route at Mohawk. He’s responsible for making deliveries safely inside the boroughs of New York City. NYS Manager Joe Castiglione shared what sets Henry apart.
“Henry has been an outstanding Mohawk professional under the most stressful situations, day in and day out,” Joe said. “Driving a car is difficult in Brooklyn, New York, never mind a tractor and trailer.”
Andy Callahan, Fishers, IN
We all know that customer experience is important, and INS Manager Tom Brady was happy to explain what makes Andy stand out.
"Andy has been a Mohawk driver for 11 years,” Tom said. “He continues to display a positive attitude amongst his peers and his customers, which gives them the positive delivery experience they look for. He always provides constructive criticism to both help our satellite center and enhance our delivery process. He is the true definition of a ‘team player,’ and we enjoy having him here."
Robert Williams, Memphis, TN
Robert joined the Mohawk team in 1998 and celebrated his retirement along with winning the Southeast Region Driver of the Year in March.
“Robert has always been focused on providing the best possible customer service, and in his words, he ‘treated them as if he was walking into their homes,’” MES Manager John Armstrong said. “Many of his customers thought of him as a friend, not just a delivery guy from Mohawk.”
Steven Woodward, Oklahoma City, OK
Mohawk’s Oklahoma City Warehouse spent the majority of 2018 without a manager. During this time, Steve stepped up and covered routes when necessary, on top of loading trailers, undertaking safety and audit tasks, and providing other drivers with their information every night (and on weekends) to ensure no loads were missed. Since he had not used them before, he took it upon himself to learn all of the system-related functions, and somehow found time to attend the Master Trainer course in Georgia.
"Steve exemplifies what a true team player is and how invaluable one can be in times of need,” former ROM for the South Central Region Mike Ocker said.
Alfredo “Freddy” Guerrero, Fontana, CA
When Mohawk needed to adjust the Western Region’s distribution operation and decided to further utilize transportation opportunities at the Dal-Tile facility in Ontario, Freddy stepped up and helped make it a success.
"Freddy has been with Mohawk for six years now, in which he has had no incidents or citations,” SCD Manager Joe Carbajal said. “He has done numerous assignments for us when asked and is always one to step up. Because he has done every driver role, he is a mentor to his fellow drivers, who often go to him for advice and guidance."
Junior Weaver, N. GA OTR Fleet
To say Junior is a dedicated Mohawk Driver is an understatement.
“Mr. Weaver has been an invaluable team member for the past 27 years,” Manager of Fleet Operations Jamie Miller said. “He is always willing to do whatever is asked of him with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. In his 27 years with Mohawk, Junior has never had a service failure. We are blessed to have such a wonderful man on our team.”
Todd Williams, N. GA Local Fleet
Being a Local Driver in North Georgia requires flexibility, as well as a commitment to safety. Since Todd joined Mohawk in 1999, he’s gone above and beyond, and done so with a positive attitude and continued focus on safety.
“Local Traffic has an amazing group of drivers,” N. GA Local Fleet Manager Matt West said. “To be awarded this honor speaks to Todd’s daily efforts. Todd consistently performs his job with safety in mind and is always willing to lend a hand.”
