978 days and counting.
That’s how long the team the Mohawk Melbourne, AR Warehouse facility has gone without an OSHA recordable, and results like that don’t happen by chance.
Most of the employees have been with the Company for years and are not only committed to safety for themselves, but for each other as well. Each morning they start the day with a safety meeting to touch base on safety expectations that are required of the department each day.
“It is a really great group of guys we have,” Supervisor or Shipping and Receiving Rita Tyson said. “They’re always looking out for each other, and they won’t hesitate to point out a safety hazard or help someone correct an action that could be a risk for them. When we have someone new join us, everyone on the team helps watch out for them until that person is comfortable and confident with our safety expectations.”
Some of the everyday safety hazards that they focus on are housekeeping, forklift safety, how to safely stack pallets, truck loading, moving material and properly locking trucks once they’re loaded. Truck drivers who pick up from the site also get a course in safe practices when at the warehouse.
“I believe that the key to this team’s success is that there’s a lot of accountability here, and this is group that works together as a team and wants to take care of each other,” Rita said. “We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished here.”
